This is OLD. I never uploaded it before because when I uploaded my other pottery ([link]) I was saving this to give to my sister as a gift and didn't want to ruin the surprise. In honor of her birthday today, I decided what better day to upload it?
As a part of my ceramics class, we had to create a non-traditional cup and saucer. So here was one of mine! The shell is the cup (and is functional as a cup with a clear glaze on the inside) and the body is the saucer. lol
This was surprisingly hard to construct. The shell was wheel thrown, and had to be "footed" as a sphere. The body was hand built. It was hard to get the head to dry 'up.' So while I was adding details I had to rest the head (upper right picture) on a sponge to avoid a dent and set it on something so that it could dry with its head up. After firing, I added a rub to the body to give it that rough and textured look. This was a class favorite and was one of my best pieces...ever. It was hard to give it away! lol But I made it for my sister in the first place so...
This is absolutely awesome! I would so love one of these! I love how skilled you are in so many areas The texture is amazing, and I just love the idea... The turtle is so cute!! Lovely stuff
How absolutely gorgeous. I love this, it looks tribal African, and so professional too. Tortoises are so overlooked, and you did an amazing job rendering it! I love the detail in the shell and those little claws. Just another fantastic piece, wouldn't expect anything else from you!
